Colonie has more than 30 hotels between Wolf Road and Albany International — expect $95-$150 nightly and free parking at every one.

Who it suits

Colonie is where most Albany visitors actually sleep. Wolf Road is a 2-mile hotel and chain-restaurant strip with the Marriott, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn, and everything in between, plus Crossgates-adjacent Colonie Center mall. The airport hotels — a Hyatt Place, Hilton Garden, and Fairfield — sit 10 minutes further north off Albany Shaker Road. It suits families, drivers, business travelers with meetings in the tech corridor, and anyone with an early flight. Prices are consistently 30-40% below Downtown Albany for similar chain brands.

Who it doesn’t suit

Colonie is suburbia. You cannot walk to Downtown Albany, Empire State Plaza, or Lark Street — it is a 15-minute drive or a 40-minute bus. There is no urban character; the walk from your hotel to Cheesecake Factory is across a parking lot. Skip Colonie if you want a walkable trip, a historic neighborhood, or a real dinner scene. And avoid it if you don’t have a car and plan to sightsee downtown daily — the rideshare bill will erase the room savings.
