Hilton Albany on Lodge Street tops the list for families visiting the State Capitol and The Egg — connecting rooms are common, the pool runs 6am to 10pm, and rates sit around $155 a night midweek. Renaissance Albany on Broadway is pricier at $185 but has the roomiest suites and a decent kids' menu at Wellington's. Hampton Inn & Suites downtown is the value pick at $135 with free breakfast that saves a family of four roughly $40 a morning.
Suburban picks with pools and parking
Out in Colonie and Guilderland, families do better on space and price. Homewood Suites Albany-Wolf Road runs $145 with full kitchens and a saltwater pool — the best all-round family pick in the metro. Residence Inn Albany Airport is $130 and quieter than the Wolf Road strip. Skip the older Best Western on Watervliet Avenue Extension unless you’re desperate; the pool has been unreliable for two years. Century House in Latham is charming but has no pool, which kids will notice.
What to book and what to skip
For families, prioritise indoor pools (Albany winters are brutal) and free parking, which downtown rarely includes — expect $25 to $35 a night at Hilton and Renaissance. Two queens beats a king-with-sofa nine times out of ten. Avoid the older motels along Central Avenue near Everett Road; the price looks tempting at $75 but the surrounding blocks aren’t where you want kids walking after dark.
