Hotels with serious fitness centers in Albany
Hotel fitness center with treadmills and free weights
Eight Albany hotels where the gym is actually usable, ranked past the two-treadmill-in-a-closet baseline.
The genuinely good gyms
The Renaissance Albany runs the best in-hotel gym downtown: Peloton bikes, a full Life Fitness cable stack, dumbbells to 60 lbs, and it's open 24 hours with room-key access. The Hilton Albany is a close second — smaller footprint but similar equipment quality, plus a small stretching area. The Hyatt Place Albany/Downtown surprises people: the gym is on the second floor with real windows, three treadmills, two ellipticals, a rower, and dumbbells to 50 lbs.
The Desmond Hotel near the airport has the largest gym of any Albany-area property, with a lap pool attached — it's the pick if you actually swim. The Homewood Suites Wolf Road has a modest but well-maintained gym with a Precor lineup that gets replaced on cycle, unusual for extended-stay properties.
Skip these if you care
The Best Western Sovereign, Red Roof Inn Albany, and most Central Avenue budget properties have gyms in the technical sense — a treadmill, sometimes a bike, occasionally a bench with mismatched dumbbells. If a real workout matters, buy a $20 day pass at the Albany YMCA on Washington Avenue instead, which has full facilities and is walking distance from most downtown hotels. Planet Fitness in Colonie also offers day passes and is a five-minute drive from Wolf Road hotels — an underrated hack for airport-area stays.
Before you book
The questions people ask about Colonie, answered with this month’s numbers.
The Desmond Hotel — it's a proper 60-foot indoor pool, not a splash pool. The Hilton Albany's pool is decent for 15-yard laps but crowded on weekends with family bookings.
The Renaissance Albany and the Hyatt Place Albany/Downtown both stock Peloton bikes as of 2025. The Hilton Garden Inn Albany-Medical Center has one bike as well.
