For uptown campus visits
The Hilton Garden Inn Albany SUNY on Washington Avenue Extension is the closest hotel to the uptown campus — a two-minute drive to the main entrance and walkable if the weather cooperates. Book it 12+ months out for graduation weekend, which sells out every year. The Hampton Inn & Suites Albany-Guilderland and the Homewood Suites Albany-Wolf Road are both 10-15 minutes from campus and typically have availability when the Hilton Garden is gone.
The Fairfield Inn Albany East Greenbush is further but reliably has rooms at reasonable rates during peak dates because parents don’t think to look east of the river.
For downtown campus and law school
For visits to the UAlbany downtown campus or Albany Law School on New Scotland Avenue, the Hilton Albany, Renaissance Albany, and Hyatt Place Albany/Downtown are all under 10 minutes by car and walkable to Center Square dining. If you have back-to-back visits — say, UAlbany plus Siena in Loudonville plus RPI in Troy — the Homewood Suites Wolf Road is geographically central to all three campuses and has suite layouts that work for families. Skip the older Central Avenue budget properties: the price savings evaporate the first time you drive through Central at 8 AM on a weekday.
