The Pastures is a 4-block grid of Federal and Greek Revival rowhouses between South Pearl and the river, dating to the 1810s. It is the right pick if you have tickets to MVP Arena (an 8-minute walk), a game at the Times Union Center, or an early Amtrak from Rensselaer — the station is a $6 Uber across the Dunn Memorial Bridge. Preservation nerds and architecture photographers love it. The rentals are small, individually owned, and often cheaper than a Hampton Inn room downtown.
Who it doesn’t suit
This is a residential pocket with almost no commerce inside its borders — no cafes, no restaurants, one bodega. You will walk to South Pearl or up to Madison for food.
