For state government and lobbying
The Renaissance Albany is the default for Capitol business — five minutes on foot to the Legislative Office Building, dedicated meeting rooms, and Wi-Fi that consistently benchmarks over 200 Mbps in my speed tests. The Hilton Albany is the same distance to the plaza and has more meeting room square footage, making it the choice when you’re the one hosting. The 74 State Hotel is smaller and quieter, better for one-on-ones than for bringing 30 people together.
The Hyatt Place Albany/Downtown is the newer challenger — better in-room work setup than the Hilton (larger desks, proper ergonomic chairs) but weaker on group meeting space. Bookings run 30 percent cheaper than the Renaissance on legislative session weeks.
For airport and corporate campus visits
The Desmond Hotel is the pick for anyone doing business at the corporate parks off Wolf Road or needing quick airport access — proper conference facilities and a shuttle. The Hilton Garden Inn Albany-Airport is smaller but has better in-room desks. The Homewood Suites Wolf Road works if you’re staying multiple nights and running a project on-site; the suite layout means you can spread out. Skip the older properties on Central Avenue — the Wi-Fi is unreliable and the desks are laptop-only, not real work surfaces.

The Hilton Albany on Lodge Street is closest — about a three-minute walk to the plaza's northern edge. The Renaissance is five to seven minutes.
