The real boutique options
The Morgan State House on Washington Park is Albany's most convincing boutique — a restored 19th-century townhouse with 15 rooms overlooking the park, from $175 a night. State House on State Street is smaller (8 rooms, around $195) and closer to the Capitol. 74 State on State Street is more corporate-feeling despite the boutique branding, but rooms are large at $185. In Troy, 15 minutes north, the Franklin Plaza area has a couple of newer boutique conversions worth the drive.
What you get for the money
You’re paying for architecture and location, not amenities. Expect no pool, no gym worth using, and small rooms — this is the historic-townhouse trade-off. What you get: quiet, walkable-to-everything locations, characterful lobbies, and staff who actually remember your name. If you’d rather have a pool and a treadmill, book the Renaissance downtown instead and save $30. If you want to feel like you’re staying in Albany rather than in an anywhere-hotel, the Morgan is the pick.
